FAQs about your ceremony
- What documentation do I need?
- You must lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NIM) with me no less than one month and one day (and no more than 18 months) prior to the marriage being solemnised.
- Original Birth Certificates or Overseas passport for persons born outside of Australia, if no birth certificate is available. Persons intending to marry must be over 18.
- Decree Absolute for persons previously married
- Do I need a witness?
- Yes, you are legally required to have two witnesses. They must be over 18.
- Do I need to know them?
- No.
- Can I have my own ceremony?
- Yes. You can have a ceremony that you have created yourself with your own readings, poetry, music, rituals etc. that you choose. The Wedding Vows must follow the prescribed wording.
- Will we have a rehearsal?
- Yes. A rehearsal irons out all the creases, so to speak. Even though the wedding may not go exactly like the rehearsal, it gives everyone a good idea of what they have to do on the day. It also helps the whole bridal party to get to know each other.
- Can you help us with the production and presentation of the ceremony?
- Yes, I can recommend readings, poetry, music etc to turn your day into a memorable and enjoyable event.
You will need to show me (before I sign the NIM):
If you have any other questions, call or email me.
